Weekend Weather & Looking Ahead
A sunny Saturday, upcoming protests, community events
Saturday is supposed to be sunny and above freezing. It may not be shorts-and-t-shirt weather yet, but we’re getting closer!
We’re also getting closer to the next No Kings protest on March 28 from 1–3 p.m. Please invite your friends, family, and neighbors to join us, along with people all over the country. More details, including closer parking options, will be shared in upcoming newsletters.
This is a great time to spruce up your protest signs or make new ones. Tomorrow is a national Stand Up For Science protest, so you can run with that theme. And we can’t let Trump take attention away from the Epstein files, so that’s one idea for signs.
SW Protectors Meeting
On Tuesday we held the SW Protectors meeting, where 63 people gathered to discuss future plans and ways to continue:
Protecting voting rights
Defending the Constitution
Building community
It was a great evening of conversation, planning, and good food.
Upcoming Events
Several events are coming up in the next few weeks.
Zumba Fundraiser for Latino Voices
Workshop with Elie Kruger
Choosing Hope: A Garment, a Ripple, and a Button [Register]
March 19
Elie also protests every Friday from 3–4 p.m. at the corner of Chaska Boulevard and Highway 41, and everyone is invited to join her.
The Singing Resistance is also growing, and I will include a contact person in the next newsletter.
What’s Happening Around Us
A lot is happening all at once.
ICE is continuing to spread fear across the United States, and yes, they are still active here as well. We are at war in the Middle East, and Trump is spreading Christian nationalist ideas to the troops.
Closer to home, there have still been no indictments against the agents who shot Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and Pam Bondi has again referred to them as domestic terrorists. The Boundary Waters remain under threat, and gas prices are skyrocketing.
Four American soldiers have already died in the Iranian War, one being Sergeant 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. A mother, a wife, and a daughter.
In the coming days and weeks we need to remember that these are real people. People who did not have to die and especially not for a war started by madmen.
Some Good News
There is good news too.
Every time I ask for help refilling the shelves for Latino Voices, you show up and deliver. People across the country are looking at Minnesota as an example of how to stand up to ICE.
And in political races around the country, Democrats are winning and unseating Republicans in places that were once red strongholds.

We still have a long fight ahead of us but we’re in it together.
