We Show Up, Even in the Cold
When democracy feels tested, neighbors stand together.
A Note From Judith:
Bundle up for Saturday. It will be cold. I take it as a badge of honor that we stand out there no matter the weather. We represent the Minnesota spirit the world has been seeing these last few months.
Today, news broke that Trump wants to declare an emergency and seek executive power over our elections. This has been whispered about before, but now it seems to be becoming a reality.
If we can’t vote, we can’t vote them out.
If you think things with ICE are done, they are not. They are ramping up in other states. In Buffalo, New York, ICE reportedly dropped a blind man off five miles from his home in the middle of winter, late at night, without telling anyone. He has since been found dead.
Today in Kansas, the state began offering bounties for identifying trans people who are driving after declaring their driver’s licenses invalid. These are just three of the new developments in the last few hours. None of this is normal. None of this happens in a thriving, functioning democracy.
You are making a difference by protesting, by showing up and volunteering, by wearing your protest buttons and planting yard signs in your snowbanks. You are letting others know that we are resisting and that they can, too. You are giving some the courage to act while showing others that we stand with them.
The louder and more persistent we are, the harder it becomes to ignore us or dismiss us as a small group of troublemakers. They win if we comply, or if we hide and look away. We are not going to do that. We are not going to comply. We are going to be loud in our dissent.
More cowbell. More singing. Yes, more fighting.
We are the resistance.
