A note from Judith:

Due to the severe weather forecast for Saturday, I am not asking our volunteers to attend the protest. If you still wish to protest, you are welcome to do so, but our team will not be present.

Instead, I encourage you to spend that hour in other meaningful ways:

• Meeting with community members,

• Calling your representatives, or

• Signing up for Monarca training.

The last few days have been frightening, with ICE activity entering our communities. If you want to be part of rapid response efforts, please complete a Monarca training and then let me know so we can add you to a separate response team.

I have been in Florida these past days, where I was present when my father died.

My father was a concentration camp survivor. My mother’s family hid both Jews and American airmen in their basement during World War II.

As Europeans, we are painfully familiar with what fascism and dictatorship look like. My mother has vivid memories of the SS walking through the streets with their German shepherds.

What we are seeing now—ICE dragging people from their homes—uses different technology, but the tactics are disturbingly similar. This is not a question of if or when. It is happening now.

Do not give up. My family didn’t—and neither will I.
