First things first: A note from Mike about the new venue for his Drinking Liberally happy hours. After that, some housekeeping items.
Hi everyone! Hope your week is off to a great start. I have some terrific news.
Sorry for the long email but we are going to make a change and I want you to know my thinking...
We've had a great start to Drinking Liberally, but... many complaints about the noise and difficulty to hear. I've even had people tell me they were thinking of not coming back Because of the noise... my own spouse included. :-)
Fat Pants has not been accommodating or shown any interest in helping our group fix this problem.
One of our members suggested a fun little restaurant and bar within a stone's throw of our rallies. It's called The Bellows and it’s located at 232 Pioneer Trail, in the same strip-mall as the Cub Foods but at the opposite end.
My wife and I went, had dinner and I talked to the owner. Super guy who is actually excited about hosting us.
So, we are moving the venue to The Bellows beginning with our next meeting on Tuesday, September the 2nd from 6:30 to 8:00.
Here's why I and the four or five other people I discussed this with think it's a great idea:
The owner loves us.
The acoustics are 100% better. You can now have normal conversations
He is giving us a room for free (Fat Pants wanted to charge us $1,500). It is a large room so we will be able to move about and speak with everyone we want to...instead of being squeezed in and only talking to the person sitting next to or across from us.
They have a big screen TV and a projector so if we want to show movies or documentaries in the future we will be able to do that.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming.
The food is fantastic, fun bar food and is less expensive than Fat Pants.
And he is going to promote us to his mailing list which has thousands of younger, liberally-minded folks on it. It’s a great opportunity to start bringing younger folks to our movement.
Here's the one little fun fact that will add to the quirkiness and fun of our events. The Bellows is actually medieval-themed and is next door to the owner’s other business, which is a board games store.
So, please roll with the fun of this venue. I think the owner Robert and his crew are going to be fantastic hosts for our events.
Please shoot me an email if you think this move is a good thing...or bad.
Thanks!
Mike
Volunteers Needed
We need some help!
Clickers
We need at least three people to count the cars that pass by while we hold our rallies.
One to count people who give us a thumbs up, clap, honk, or are recording with their phone.
One to count people who give us a thumbs down/bird.
And one to count people who do not express support or disapproval.
While not scientific, we will at least be able to collect data to get a rough estimate of the percentage of support, disapproval for each week and, over time, whether the percent of support increases and the percent of disapproval decreases.
Blue & Yellow Vests
We need people to keep an eye on things in case anyone needs help, pass out bottles of water, help people who may need assistance walking, and welcome newcomers.
We could especially use people with medical training in the event someone has a health incident.
Please reply to this email if you’d like to help.
Indivisible Training
The Indivisible organization recently held a series of three training sessions called One Million Rising that provides a framework for how to undermine the pillars that support fascism.
I found them very helpful for thinking about ways each us can practice non-cooperation in our resistence to this fascist movement.

Do you have any educational/training resources you’d like to share? Leave them in the comments. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, I’d like to create a resources page on this site for easy reference.
What a coincidence. I just ate at the Bellows this weekend. The food was very good and great atmosphere. I think you made a wise decision.
I think the move will be good. Looking forward to the meeting.
