A note from Judith:
Hello all,
On November first Snap benefits will be paused for millions of Americans.
In Minnesota approximately 450,000 depend on this program. In Carver County, SNAP provides meals to about 1,900 people not, including all the federal workers who are currently not working due to the shutdown.
Representative Lucy Rehm is holding a food drive at our protest site this Saturday November 1st.
Bountiful Baskets lists the items to be included in an emergency food bag:
2 cans vegetables
1 can fruit
2 cans beans
1 bag rice
1 pasta
1 pasta sauce
2 canned meats
1 peanut butter
But suffice it to say, anything and everything is welcome including things like women’s hygiene products and toilet paper and fixings for Thanksgiving.
If you are bringing items, please drive to the Park Dental office in the far corner past Aldi and Kohls. That is where Lucy’s volunteers will be loading everything in cars.

Also, all cash that is donated on Saturday down the protest line that is usually used to buy water etc. will be donated to the food shelf, as well.
We’re Raising Spirits
I want to let you know that I have spoken to people in our community and also Chanhassen, Excelsior and Minnetonka who have heard about our protests and how it is making a difference.
Us standing there is raising spirits and reminding people they are not alone.
My family in Europe is cheering us all on and my parents who live in the very red state of Florida look at all the pictures on a weekly basis, laugh at the funny and sarcastic protest signs and are amazed at how some of you show up with walkers and canes.
As of now the weather for Saturday again looks dry. I look forward to seeing you all. See you Saturday!

I also send a picture of our protest each week to my daughter. It helps lift her spirits as she is a federal employee who needs support. She is lucky to be an essential worker who has not been furloughed.
This is such a great idea. I am glad that Chaska is sticking together. Kudos to representative Lucy as well! Our family started a reoccurring monthly donation to Bountiful Baskets back in March as one way to support our community and we are so glad we are doing that.
