I know everyone wants to know the number of people who showed up on Saturday. 905! I do not know the total amount of food and necessities we collected yet, but we filled seven bins and collected $800! Thank you so much to everyone who donated!
This Tuesday, Ellie Krug will be our special guest at the Golden Kitchen starting at 6:30 p.m. Ellie is a national speaker and is running for reelection to the Carver County school board. The Republican Party has decided to come after Ellie for standing up against fascism. It’s amazing that they think standing up against fascism makes her unfit to be on the school board. Ellie is an amazing speaker and deserves our support. I hope to see you there.
We have a short amount of time left before November 3. I know that you all have either voted or have your plan ready to vote. We have one more protest left before the election. I do not know what will happen after the election or what this will look like, but I do know the regime will not give up power easily.
I hope you come to next week’s protest, as it will be my last one as an organizer. In the last year, you have kept my faith in humanity. Every week, as the news got worse and worse, I would show up on Saturday, and rain or shine, snowstorm or heatwave, you showed up. When asked to help with food drives, you showed up.
I would be walking down the line and get hugs, quick conversations about how things were insane, and so many smiles and words of encouragement. You kept me going! I am so thankful to all of you. You may still see me at a protest, but I will be there standing by your side.
After this Tuesday’s SW Protectors gathering with Ellie, we are invited to an election night watch party at the Golden Kitchen with the Carver County Democrats. The Golden Kitchen has said they will stay open late!
I do not know yet how or if to proceed with the SW Protectors after that date. I need a few weeks to gather myself, but I will keep you posted. The next few weeks may require a recalibration of how we approach things. In the meantime, we need to keep building community and supporting each other.
The amazing volunteers at the protest will continue to be there. If you would like to help, please let them know!
Continue to fight and continue to love.
